How to save an Excel sheet as a CSV file
A CSV file is a plain text table: one row per line, values separated by commas. Almost every data tool can read it, which makes it the safest way to move a sales sheet from one place to another.
In Microsoft Excel
Open your workbook and click the sheet that holds your data. Choose File, then Save As, pick a folder, and set the file type to “CSV (Comma delimited)”. Excel saves only the sheet you are looking at, so repeat the steps for each sheet you need.
In Google Sheets
Open the sheet, choose File, then Download, then “Comma-separated values (.csv)”. The file goes to your Downloads folder.
Check the file before you use it
Make sure the first row holds column names, such as Date, City, Item, Amount. Keep one table per file, with no blank rows at the top and no totals row at the bottom. Dates should be in one style, for example 25/12/2026 or 2026-12-25. Numbers should not contain words, and amounts should not have currency symbols mixed with text.
